Why plan your vacation in the Drakensberg, South Africa
This particular mountain boasts the highest waterfall in Africa, and second highest in the World, approx 947m, dropping in four stages. This beautiful sight may be seen from the cottages at the Berghouse & Cottages, in the summertime. Beneath this mountain is the famous Royal Natal National Park, offering various hikes on well marked trails, the most popular option being the Gorge walk.
Duration and distance, 4.5 hours walking over approx 20 kilometers, respectively. Alternatively, a shorter hike can be easily achieved namely the Gudu Bush and waterfall hike via the Queens Causeway, Cascades, then, to Look Out Rock, then, cross a stream and onto the Gudu Bush, turn off the path at the Gudu falls sign, carry on up the valley until you reach the waterfall, an ideal place to picnic over lunchtime, duration of this hike is approx 3 hours excluding stopping off for lunch.
The Northern Drakensberg is situated Halfway between Johannesburg and Durban. Good roads network the region. Mobile signal may be sketchy at times but mostly good coverage to the entire area.
